Playing an impromptu, unannounced set from the porch of Beerland, Fucked Up was nasty, brutish, and short. The set was as unpolished as it was unplanned, the type off-the-cuff performance that has made this group so well liked. As usual, frontman Damian Abraham was a spectacle, hanging from the porch rafters and taking his shirt off after only a few songs. It was a performance, indeed, as much fun to watch as to listen to. Said Abraham, "Our new slogan is 'You get what you pay for.' So since this is a free show, we're not gonna be very good." True, the band was far from perfect - on multiple occasions Abraham berated his guitarist for messing up songs, threatening to kick him out of the group – but perfection wasn’t the goal. The crowd happily moshed and soaked up the sun, savoring the type of show that makes South By so special.
