Arriving just a song or two from the end of an Immortal Technique set just feels wrong. This isn't the kind of rap show in which one song could replace another in any order, where the MC might spit a verse and toast the DJ and hang off a few beats; this is a show that builds and is emotionally taxing and in which a lot is at stake. Any time there are fists are in the air for "let's all be better men for ourselves and treat women with more respect," rather than, say, "f**k po-lice," a different kind of MC is at the mic.
Immortal technique fits that bill and then some. Even catching the last two songs encompassed the last nearly twenty minutes of the set. "Dance With the Devil" is a 10-minute odyssey of a cautionary tale, and it's tough to imagine having to close so many sets on such a grave note. But when the music draws to a close, there's still a good few minutes of MC Felipe Coronel getting the crowd riled up on the power of freely assembled people and La Revolucion. It's hard to imagine any spectacle more furiously, aggressively positive.
