Death Cab For Cutie has one take to get their music video done right for the first single off Codes and Keys, "You Are A Tourist," and they're doing it live. After rehearsing in a sound stage all day yesterday with multiple background actors, a troop of dancers and tons of computers organizing projections of cityscapes and geometric designs, they are (hopefully) ready to air the video at 4 p.m. PST, a.k.a. 7 p.m. EST. MTV.com is hosting the live stream and interviewed the band on the process in anticipation for its debut. Ben Gibbard gave his thoughts on a worst case scenario:
I think the trick here, or the balance here, is to try to have there be a legitimate amount of choreography involved, but not so much that if one thing goes wrong, the whole thing topples like a house of cards. And there are some very, kind of, tight moves throughout the video, but nothing that, you know, if I'm not standing here at this one point, the Rube Goldberg kind of thing falls apart and you're standing there for the next three minutes looking like a moron.
I think the fans would be pretty forgiving if all they're worried about is looking like an idiot! Check out some fun potential video snippets from the band on youareatourist.com and come back here at 4/7 p.m. to watch the video live!
