I wouldn't be surprised if the kids in Candy Claws had to get permission slips from their parents to miss a day of high school to play Pitchfork's #Offline Festival. The kids look like they're about 14, but they make music that feels like there's a whole bunch more experience behind it than that. Armed with guitar, bass, drum, and synth, the youngsters crafted half an hour of otherworldly pop music that transformed the darkened confines of Brooklyn Bowl into an alien landscape. "Sunbeam Show" was a clear standout - and indeed, the only truly memorable moment of their set - but the entirety was a treat.
