Something I didn’t see enough of this weekend was the heavy collection of electronic DJs in the lineup. But while I didn’t have a chance to catch very many of them, I can almost guarantee they all crafted a different kind of set than their peers, whenever their work in the spotlight.
One I’m very happy to have witnessed was LA Riots, someone I was completely clueless on ‘til I found myself dancing like a madwoman in front of his stand. He distributed fantastic party music to the crowd, even though the sun was still raging directly outside his tent of a venue. Heavily building up his beats, his music would explode in the way dubstep should properly be done, and the crowd was overly grateful for it. Especially when he was using the hits like Calvin Harris' and Rihanna's "We Found Love" to do it. That’s the thing about dubstep – it’s done by so many DJs nowadays that too much of it can be considered unacceptable. When someone like LA Riots puts himself behind the turntable, however, and only casually manipulates music we already love, the genre is completely validated.
