What else we were talking about that week

Leave it to Jack Black and Kyle Gass to have provided the best stage prop of Sasquatch! 2012. In honor of their recent album “Rize of the Fenix,” and a symbol of the duo’s return to musical comedy rising back up from the ashes, a gigantic phoenix was positioned at center stage. But we all could see the use of a phoenix (particularly its neck and body) was really just an exceptionally clever way to place what looked like an enormous cock and balls in the middle of their performance.

Oh, Tenacious D. How we’ve missed you.

They kicked off their set with the title track from their newest release, with lyrics that questioned “But what if it’s true/If Tenacious D has died/What will we do?” It was clear Black and Gass are far from leaving us, however, and it wasn’t long before the crowd signified their happiness for it by triumphantly throwing their fists forward at the band.

The duo tore through a fantastic set full of new and old tunes, and even nicknamed the fest Sassafrasquatch, a transformation of their “Papagenu (He’s My Sassafras),” before playing the song. Live, “Fuck Her Gently” was a mind-blower, and goosebumps erupted as the 20,000 or so fans sang the lyrics back at the stage. The Devil even made an appearance on guitar, for “Satan,” and Sasquatch himself popped onto the stage to wail on guitar.

But when Tenacious D played “Tribute,” it was done to epic levels, and truly became “the best song in the world.” Black and Gass are definitely back with a vengeance, and here’s hoping their incomparable hilarity will never leave us.
