Watching Mount Kimbie play live in concert is an interesting experience, because, honestly, there’s not much to watch. A couple of young British dudes twiddling knobs and bouncing their heads in time when the beat locks into a groove. Occasionally one picks up a guitar or hits a drum, sure, but visually there’s not too much there.
So watching Mount Kimbie play at ND on Thursday night of SXSW 2011 wasn’t so much watching as it was feeling, as the bass whoomped and the tics and bips ricocheted off of the venue’s high ceiling. The duo’s sound is warm and embracing, and I quickly got lost inside.
