If I had a time machine, one of the first things I would do is go to 1984 and see Prince perform with The Revolution when Purple Rain was at it's height. I would don the lacy gloves and shoulder pads with pride as I sang along to "I Would Die 4 U." Unfortunately, if I were to do that now, I would get plenty of amused and confused stares. Thankfully – scratch that, hopefully – I can just go as myself in 2010, as Prince has announced that he will be embarking on a Welcome 2 America tour.
Starting in December, Prince will be bringing with him his current band, New Power Generation, as well as tag-alongs Maceo Parker, Janelle Monae, Mint Condition, Esperanza Spalding, Cassandra Wilson, Lalah Hathaway and Sheila E. SHEILA E!!!!
It is definitely more than safe to say that waiting six years for him to tour again is a wait worth enduring, though I don't think we'll be getting too much of this at the show:
