Basia Bulat

I’ve heard lots of hype about Basia Bulat, but I had yet to check her tunes out when I saw her play the Rough Trade showcase at the inside stage at Emo’s. She looks young—the type of girl you would never to have a voice like the one she unleashed. Accompanying herself on guitar and autoharp, Basia was joined by brother Bobby Bulat on drums and a girl by the name of Allison Wonderland (not her given name, I’d wager) on viola. The crowd was subdued, but this isn’t exactly the type of music you hoot and holler along with. It simply was a great, short set from a girl who knows how to use her pipes.
