Chiddy Bang

I had high expectations for Chiddy Bang, the young duo that took the indie hop world by storm with last year’s Swelly Express mixtape. The bar was set unrealistically high, to be fair, but I was a touch disappointed by the set. Xaphoon Jones spun slick beats and Chiddy’s flow was impressive enough, but the pair lack the stage presence and charisma to really make things come to life off of the record. SXSW is a great place to see young artists getting their feet wet – this set felt like exactly that. The highlight of the short run of tunes? Their newest tune, a remix of Ellie Goulding’s “Under the Sheets.” Hopefully the best is yet to come.
