Shawn Chrystopher’s frenetic energy got the crowd moving at a popular hip hop showcase at Aces Lounge. As he bounced around the stage, running and motioning wildly, it was tough not to be on his side—the kid is exciting to watch. There’s no denying the exuberance of youth; his raps about girls and heartbreak have an innocence (or is it naivete?) that is as endearing as it is clichéd. But then he drops lines like “ditch class on Tuesdays, for new Js,” and you can’t help but smile.
