Fitting that my last (yes, last) review of SXSW 2010 is the most ludicrous - I would never have expected to find myself at a Bone Thugs-n-Harmony concert in my entire life. And yet, there I was, smashed against the front railing watching three grown men called Wish Bone, Krayzie Bone, and Layzie Bone recite rap lyrics written years and years ago. "Let's take this shit back to 1995, mothafucka!" shouted Krayzie Bone before their second track. Before their third, Layzie insisted that they go back even farther. Living in the past much?
Yes. Absolutely living in the past. And it was exactly what everyone wanted to see. Big hits like "1st of tha Month" and "Tha Crossroads" got warm welcomes, but homages to Tupac, Biggie, and Michael Jackson were the real hits here. It was a surreal set, full of that I-can't-believe-I'm-seeing-this buzz that accompanies living legends like Bone Thugs. They might be older, but these guys can still bring it.
